Seller's Description:
This is a Smith & Wesson .38/200 British Service Revolver(Model K-200). If you look at the pictures that I’ve taken(25), and you take note of the many markings that the pictures show, then you will see, that the pictures do confirm that it is what I said it is. Manufactured from 03-11-1940 until 03-29-1945. The S/N on this one is “V”(for victory)493343. It has a 5" pinned barrel. This firearm was identical in design to the .38 Hand Ejector Model of 1905 Fourth Change except that it was chambered for the .38 S&W instead of the .38 S&W Special cartridge. The finish on this firearm is “Black Magic” (similar to parkerizing) and tends to be fragile and thin, so finish coverage appears to deteriorate more rapidly, even with only minor handling, than with commercial blue finishes. And that is exactly the case in question with this firearm because it has several very light scratches, smudges, little nicks etc. It is reported that 110,379 K-200s were sold to the British with “Black Magic” finishes. I don’t think that this firearm was used very much at all. It feels like a new one. Locks up tight, I did not pick up on any “slop or looseness” anywhere on this firearm. When I cleaned it, the chambers and the barrel were hardly even dirty? It may not have fired more than a few times----no traces of residue or gunpowder in the chambers or the barrel?? The grips are smooth walnut without monograms with lanyard ring for the military service version. The right grip is numbered, but it does not match the serial number on the firearm and that may explain why the grips look more used than the rest of the firearm?? Six dents in the left grip and none on the right grip!? The “dents” are the primary reason for the grading to be FINE instead of EXCELLENT.
