Seller's Description: This particular M39 has a 1896 Sestroryetsk Arsenal marked receiver tang and is therefore an antique. There are NO restrictions to purchase or sell this rifle, No Federal Firearms License is necessary to purchase. It can be shipped directly to your door providing there are no state or local laws prohibiting it where you reside. All pre 1899 firearms are exempt from federal laws, and usually command a premium over identical guns made in or after 1899, and are investments that appreciate more than interest paid in a bank. The receiver was made in 1896 but the Entire Rifle was Reworked by SAKO in 1942. The Bolt is Arsenal stamped with Matching Numbers, The Magazine Floor Plate is not Matching . Barrel is import stamped “Finland” along with caliber of “7.62x54mm.”. The SAKO Gear Wheel Logo is stamped into the barrel shank, and the “SA” proof indicating service with the Finnish Army is also present. The Barrel has the”36-S-00" SAKO High Pressure proof mark. The barrel length is 27 inches, with a 1 turn in 9.5 inch twist, and is heavier than what the Russians produced. The accuracy standard for the M-39 in order to pass inspection during WWII was a 1.3 inch 3-shot group at 100 meters. There are a total of four sling swivels which made it suitable for Infantry, Mounted (Horse or Bicycle), and Ski Troops. Front sight is protected by two heavy ears, and can be adjusted for windage. The rear sight is graduated from 150- 2000 meters. It has a Pre-1944 production Round Finger Joint Stock, and comes with a cleaning rod which was made about an inch and a half shorter than what is normal. It is threaded and does contact the cleaning rod lug. The overall condition of this rifle should rate as Very Good. Blueing rates Fine and is thinning on exposed areas. The Butt Plate is “In the White” and the magazine floor plate (the natural balance point) is almost white. The wood I will only rate as Good, since it has two bruises on the forend, and a small repaired crack behind the receiver tang. This repair can only be seen with the action removed from the stock. It is free from the excessive dings and scrapes that are normally associated with Military Surplus Rifles, and is actually a beautiful stock that would rate in Fine condition if it were not for the previously mentioned blemishes. The handguard is almost perfect. The stock has a Very Nice Sakara Oy Crossed Cannon “S” Cartouche and a SAKO Gear Wheel Cartouche on the Right side of the butt stock. The Barrel’s bore is Shinny with a touch of frost, & the Rifling is good. With a 1942 SAKO date this rifle most assuredly did see action during the Continuation War (1941-1944 WWII) against the Soviet Union. The Head Space Checks Out OK. The Bolt closes on a GO Gauge, and Will Not Close on a NO-GO Gauge. The Firing Pin Protrusion is also within specifications. Measured with a Lyman Trigger Pull Gauge, the trigger pull weight came to 6 pounds 13 ounces. I have not fired this rifle and have cleaned it, inspected most of the parts, and applied Birchwood Casey Gun sheath to preserve the metal. If you intend to fire it, as with all older firearms, have it check by a competent gunsmith before you do. Do Not disassemble or fire this rifle if you plan to return it. A three day inspection period is guaranteed. If not satisfied with it as described then return it back in the same condition for a refund of the purchase price Only. No refunds on shipping costs, so Please be sure to ask questions before you bid. Additional photos can be e-mailed if requested, since I have several detailed photos on file for insurance purposes.
