Thread Title: "Winchester 1897 wood fit both 12 and 16 gauge?"
Will a butt stock and wood slide handle (forend) from a 16 gauge also fit a 12 gauge Winchester 1897? Also will the reverse also fit? I cannot seem to remember but seems to me they are interchangeable.

At this stage of your life, you'd better start wearing your name tag upside down so you can check to remember who YOU are!

I doubt if they will fit. I think they are two different sizes. Browning sold winchester three sizes, a large 12ga, a slightly smaller one, 16ga and a small 20ga size that could be barreled to a rifle. Winchester put it on the shelf and said no one needs a shotgun smaller than a 16ga and they were not going to make no stinkin pump action rifle. They are strong, I read where a guy barreled one to a 30-40 Krag and used it as a single shot.
